담임목사 인사말

저희 LA동부장로교회는 하나님 중심의 신앙, 예수 그리스도의 복음, 성령 하나님의 능력과 인도를 구하는 신앙 공동체입니다.

저희는 성경이 정확무오한 하나님의 말씀임을 믿고 순종하기를 힘쓰는 교회입니다. 종교개혁자들의 개혁주의 신앙, 하나님의 주권을 믿는 칼빈주의의 신앙 그리고 목숨을 내놓고 말씀을 지킨 순교의 신앙과 바른 진리와 참 복음을 지키고 선포하며, 주님께서 재림하시는 날까지 다음 세대에 전수하고자 힘쓰고 있습니다.

특히 Korean-American Christian 정체성에 기초한 신앙교육을 통해 차세대를 이끌어 갈 훌륭한 인재 곧 하나님의 사람을 많이 양육하는 비전을 위해 기도하고 있습니다. 하나님의 인도하심과 뜻을 따라 하나님의 나라와 그의 영광을 위해 함께 쓰임 받는 하나님의 백성이 되기를 기도합니다.

Mission Statement Of Eastern Presbyterian Church

동부장로교회는

하나님의 나라를 꿈꾸는 예수 그리스도의 제자를 양육하여,

미국 내 한인 이민교회의 의미와 미래를 향한 하나님의 뜻을 이루며,

전도와 선교를 통해 복음 전파의 대 사명을 순종하기 위해 존재한다.

Eastern Presbyterian Church exists to make disciples of Jesus Christ envisioning for God's Kingdom, to fulfill His will for the purpose and future of the Korean immigrant church in America, and to obey the Great Commission to spread the gospel through evangelism and world missions.

하나님과 그리스도 중심의 교회가 된다

We shall be a God-centered, Christ-centered church

교회가 존재하는 이유는 머리되신 예수 그리스도와 하나님 아버지를 예배하고 영광이 되기 위함입니다. 특정한 사람이나 교인을 위해 교회가 있는 것이 아닙니다. 사람의 기쁨이 아닌 하나님의 기쁨을 구할 것입니다. 사람을 우선으로 하는 민주주의나 인본주의가 아닌 하나님 중심의 신본주의 신앙과 생활을 추구할 것입니다.

Church exists to worship and glorify Jesus Christ the Head of church and God the Father. Church does not exist for any particular person or even the members. We shall be the church that does not seek to please people but God. We strive to be God-centered theistic in faith and practice, not democratic or human-centered.

"진실함과 경건함"이 있는 교회가 된다

We shall be a church of truthfulness and godliness

교회의 가장 기본적 요소인 예배나 말씀, 찬양, 기도하는 것보다도 성도의 진실함과 경건한 삶을 신앙정신으로 먼저 언급하는 것은 그리스도인이 그 빛을 잃어가는 오늘의 시대적 상황을 반영한 것입니다. 신앙을 논하기 전에 논할 수 있는 신앙적 삶의 소유자가 되십시다! 교회의 생명은 진실과 경건을 생명으로 삼는 성도의 모임에 있는 것입니다. 이것이 우리 교회가 추구하는 신앙정신입니다!

We put the truthfulness and godliness of a Christian as the crucial value before more fundamental ones like worship, words, praises and prayer because we are living in a generation when Christians are losing their light as the followers of Christ. Be a Christian of virtues before you talk about Christian faith. The life of church is recognized in all truthfulness and godliness in the life of the believers. This is the value of faith of our church we take very seriously.

“깨끗하고 순결한” 교회가 된다

We shall be a church of transparency and purity

교회는 그리스도의 몸이며 거룩한 무리인 ‘성도’들이 모여 이룬 ‘신앙 공동체’입니다. 그러기에 이 세상이 다 변질된다 해도 교회만은 모든 면에 있어 투명하고 깨끗해야 합니다. 마지막까지 변함없이 거룩하고 순결해야 합니다. 모든 물질과 재물, 권력 다툼, 감투 전쟁으로 교회의 거룩성을 상실해서는 안 됩니다. 하나님의 주권을 믿는 신앙 아래, 우리는 모든 일에 거룩하고 순결한 교회를 세우고자 힘쓸 것을 기도합니다.

Church is the Body of Christ, a faith community of holy gathering of ‘saints.’ Thus, church must be transparent and pure even when all other organizations fail to remain so. Church must remain holy and pure to the end. Materialism, power struggles, and titles in church should not defame her holiness. Trusting God’s sovereignty, we shall remain transparent and pure as church in all things we do.

“영혼의 병원“과 같은 교회가 된다[구원, 전도]

We shall be a church like ‘a hospital of souls’ [Evangelism and salvation]

영혼을 살리고 고치는 교회라면, 병자들과 그들의 치료를 위해 수고하는 봉사자들이 어울리는 병원 같은 신앙 공동체라 하겠습니다. 교회에 의인만 있기를 기대하지 마십시오. 죄인이 많다고 실망하지 마십시오. 건강한 자의 도움을 기다리는 곳이 교회입니다. 고가의 희귀한 것이 진열되었지만 이미 죽은 과거의 물건들로 가득 찬 박물관보다는 시끄럽고 냄새와 환자[죄인]의 신음소리가 끊이지 않는 병원같이 북적거리는 그런 교회가 되기를 기도합니다.

Church should be a faith community like hospital, healing and saving souls, where the sick and the nurses mingle together. Do not expect to see only the righteous in church. Do not be discouraged of many sinners in church. Church is where the sick, sinners come with desire to be whole. Our church does not want to be like a museum filled with rare and priceless articles, but dead from the past, Rather we pray to be like a spiritual hospital filled with cries and stench from the sick sinners in the world.

“가난한 자“와 함께 하는 교회가 된다

We shall be a church being together with ‘the poor’

예수님은 가난한 자를 부르러 오셨습니다. 진리와 은혜를 간구하는 가난한 심령을 가진 자에게 구원을 주시며, 온유하고 겸손한 자리에 있는 자에게 은혜를 베풀기 위하여 오셨습니다. 그러기에 주님은 가난한 자를 부요케, 약한 자를 강하게 하시며, 없는 이에게 모든 것을 주시는 이 시대의 소망이며 빛이 되십니다. 이 진리를 삶 속에 실천하기 위해 실제로 약하고, 가난하고, 소외된 형제자매들과도 사랑의 공동체를 이루는 우리 교회가 될 것입니다.

Jesus came to call the poor. He came to give salvation to those seeking truth and grace with a poor heart, and blessings to the meek and the humble. Therefore, Jesus makes the poor rich, the weak strong, the have-not have-all, as the hope and light of this generation. In order to apply this truth and spirit, we pray to build up a community of love with the weak, the poor, and the brothers and sisters overlooked by the world.

“말씀“으로 교육, 훈련하는 성경 말씀 중심의 교회가 된다

We shall be church of training and educating saints with the Word

저희는 하나님의 말씀인 성경을 사랑합니다. 말씀에 뿌리를 내리는 신앙이어야 흔들리지 않는 구원의 확신을 갖게 되며, 깨우침을 통해 성령의 감동과 역사를 체험하며, 말씀 순종을 통해 성숙한 신앙 인격자로 자라게 됩니다. 따라서 우리 교회는 이 말씀을 강해 설교하며 가르치며, 말씀훈련으로 제자를 만드는 교회가 될 것입니다. 말씀으로 양육된 제자들로 건강한 교회를 이루는 공동체가 될 것입니다.

We love the Bible the word of God. Faith deeply rooted in the word is not easily shaken but gives an assurance of salvation. Faith with the word leads to experience the life and work of the Holy Spirit and helps us grow to the maturity in Christ. Consequently, our church shall preach and teach the word of God, and make disciples of Jesus.

“작은 교회들“로 공동체를 이루는 교회가 된다

We shall be a church community comprised of "small churches."

우리는 “작은 교회”라 할 수 있는 여러 구역으로 한 공동체를 이루는 교회가 될 것입니다. 교인 수가 많아져도 빠짐없는 관심과 성도 간 긴밀한 교제를 나누도록 하며, 마음과 마음을 나누는 대화를 통해 내적치유를 얻으며, 개인적 영적 성장과 교회봉사, 전도, 선교에 이르기까지 교회의 사명을 감당하는 구역들로 공동체를 이루는 교회가 되기를 기도합니다.

Our church shall be a faith community comprised of ‘small churches,’ called ‘cell groups’. Even when there are many church members, we desire to meet their needs and give an uninterrupted attention through cell ministry. That is, they enjoy an intimate fellowship among cell members, experience healing through sharing open-heart conversation, and devote to serving others, evangelism and world missions together as a cell.

“기도하고 간구“하는 교회가 된다

We shall be a church of praying and pleading

교회의 주인은 예수님이요, 교회의 일은 주님의 일입니다. 따라서 영혼을 구원하는 복음의 일과 교회를 섬기고 세워 가는 일을 할 때, 항상 주님의 뜻을 찾아야 합니다. 하나님의 기쁨을 위해 모든 일을 해야 합니다. 우리는 무슨 일에든지, 어떤 어려움이 앞에 있든지, 기도와 간구로 늘 주님을 의지하며, 그 분이 주시는 힘으로 세워져 가는 주님의 교회가 되기를 진심으로 소원합니다.

The Lord of church is Jesus. The work in church is the Lord’s work. Therefore, we must always seek the will of the Lord when we do various works of the gospel and build up the Body of Christ. We as church ought to seek to please the Lord God. We sincerely desire to be the church of Jesus Christ, trusting in the Lord in prayer and plead, whatever we do and whenever obstacles stand before us.

“균형 있는 구제, 육성, 전도, 선교[구.육.전.선.]의 교회”가 된다

We shall be a church doing balanced ministry of charity, supporting leaders of God, evangelism and world mission

교회가 세상에서 해야 할 일 중에는 가진 것이 부족한 자들과 함께 하는 나눔[구제], 주변 구원받지 못한 자들에게 전도, 먼 곳에 있는 민족에게 선교하는 일과 더 나아가 주님의 ‘사람을 키우는 일’이라 하겠습니다. 이들은 모두 한결같이 중요한 것입니다. 한 쪽에만 치우치고 다른 쪽을 무시하는 것은 바람직 한 것이 아닙니다. 따라서 우리는 빠짐없고 치우침 없는 균형있는 구제와 전도와 선교와 사람을 키우는 일을 하는 교회가 될 것을 기도합니다.

Among numerous ministries in church, we shall not neglect to share with those in needs[charity], support the servants of God[supporting], witness to those near[evangelism], and bring the gospel to those afar[world mission]. Every single one of them is important and must not be ignored. Thus, we pray to be a church committing to charity, supporting, evangelism and world mission.

“찬양과 예배“를 드리는 교회가 된다

We shall be a church of praise and worship

열 번째이지만, 찬양과 예배는 교회의 가장 궁극적인 사명과 특권입니다. 따라서 교회로 모이는 모든 모임과 일들의 동기와 목적이, 그리고 그 모임 자체가 하나님께 올려드리는 찬양과 예배가 되어야 합니다. 우리의 모든 것을 드려 또 모든 모임을 통해 살아있는 찬양과 예배를 주님께 하며, 성령님의 감동과 은혜가 넘치는 교회가 되기를 간구합니다.

Though it is the tenth one, praising and worshipping are the foremost fundamental mission and privilege of church of Jesus. The motive and purpose of all gatherings and meetings, and all ministries we do as church must be so to worship and praise God and Jesus our Lord. We pray to be a church overflowing with joy and grace in the Holy Spirit, worshipping and praising God, through all we do and with all we have.
